Rare books collections: Murray Collection
Murray Collection
This collection was bequested in 1670 to St Leonard's College from Mungo Murray (1599-1670), regent of St Leonard's College, later Professor of Astronomy at Gresham College and Rector of Wells. There are 48 volumes of the 16th and 17th centuries, chiefly theological, but including Gerard's Herball (1636) and Montaigne's Essais (1635).
Finding aids
The collection has been catalogued and is available here via the online catalogue. There is a contemporary manuscript list of the full original bequest, which gives over 1050 items. Classmarks for books in this collection have the prefix Murr, although some have been absorbed into the Typographical Collection and can be found here.
