Gordon Collection

This collection represents the library of philologist Eric Valentine Gordon and his wife Ida (née Pickles), presented by his daughter Bridget Mackenzie, lecturer in Old Norse at the University of Glasgow.

This is Gordons’s working collection of around 850 books which feature many works of Old- and Middle-English, Icelandic and Norse literature with their extensive marginalia and notes. It also includes many editions of E V Gordon’s works, including his translation of Pearl and Sir Gawain published along with J R R Tolkien.

This collection has yet to be classified and catalogued, but can be accessed by contacting Special Collections.
