Manuscript collections: Maitland-Dougall

Maitland-Dougall Family

The papers include diaries of Mrs Frederick King (Charlotte Mary Maitland-Heriot) and Mrs Henry King (Alice Pechell), sketchbooks, a recipe book, letters from Isabella King nee Maitland-Heriot, watercolour sketch books and scrapbooks from travels abroad.

The family was connected to Heriot-Maitland-Dougalls, based at Scotscraig near Tayport, and Maitlands of Rankeillor. Many male members of the family played important roles in the Navy, and were also interested in early photography. Others served as JPs, and Lord and Deputy Lieutenants for Fife. Vice-Admiral William Heriot-Maitland-Dougall's son William married Charlotte Isabella King, herself the daughter of Charlotte Mary Maitland-Heriot and Frederick King. Their son was Colonel Wilmot Edward, whose son Colin is the current Maitland-Dougall at Dowhill.

The list of the collection is still in preparation. See also the Maitland-Dougall albums in the Photographic collection
