Cheapes of Rossie

The family and estate papers of the Cheape family of Rossie, consisting of approximately 5000 documents ranging in date from 1454 to 1778. Although primarily concerned with the Cheapes, a prominent landholding family in Fife and Perthshire during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, there is also a considerable amount of material on the Scrimgeours of Myres, the Bonars of Rossie and Lumquhat, the Hardies in Wester Rossie, the Scotts of Rossie and the Lindsays of Kilwhiss.

This collection is complemented by the related collection of Cheape of Strathtyrum (msdep76); the papers (mainly 18th and 19th century) of that branch of the Cheape family who lived at Strathtyrum House, on the outskirts of St Andrews.
