Purdie, Thomas (1843-1916)

Thomas Purdie was Professor of Chemistry from 1884 until his retirement in 1909. After initially making his career in business, he studied at the Royal School of Mines and obtained his PhD from Wurzburg University.

His papers include notebooks, lectures, correspondence, research notes; a photograph album presented to Purdie on his retirement; notebooks of some of his students including John Read, later also Professor of Chemistry.
