Playfair family
The papers relating to the Playfair family, a prominent family in St Andrews and beyond, particularly during the 19th century. The papers include the journals of Rev James Playfair DD (1738-1819), principal of the United College of the University of St Andrews; lively diaries of Mrs Patrick Playfair, his second daughter; letters and journals by Surgeon-General George Playfair in India; letter books of Sir Robert Lambert Playfair illustrating his diplomatic career in Aden, North Africa and Zanzibar; and early photograph albums.
