Creating a compressed Library

We recommend that you save and backup your EndNote Library on a regular basis by creating a compressed library.

  • Go to File > Compressed Library
  • Choose the following settings

Click on Next and choose where you want to save your Library.

Do NOT save or backup your EndNote library to an online cloud environment (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive ) as this may corrupt the file.

We also recommend syncing your Library with EndNote Online so you can access it online even when you don’t have your own machine available.

Compressed Library size restrictions

If your EndNote Library exceeds 4 GB in size and/or 65,535 files the Compressed Library command can't be used. You should still backup your Library by using other compression software e.g. 7-zip
