Library Search: Recalls and Requests

This guide provides you with information on how to use Library Search (Primo VE)

Recalls

If a book or DVD is out on loan and there are no other copies available you can recall a copy. Items which can be recalled will have the status "Not available"

How to place a recall request

  • Click the book title to open the record
  • Click the option to sign in to your account, located in the middle of the record, or on the top right of the screen
  • Staff and Students should use the University login
  • Login using your University email address and password
  • Once logged in you'll see the option to 'Request' the book in the 'Find it in Library' section of the record:

Find it in Library.  REQUEST: Request. Back to locations.

  • Click the 'Request' option.
  • A form will open

Request.  Material Type: Book.  1. Pickup location, marked with an asterisk, the option Main Library is selected, there is a dropdown option to select other sites. Terms of use, there is a dropdown option here which shows the book is a 4 week loan item. Not needed after, the date of 3rd April 2025 has been entered; Comments, there is a comments field which has been left blank. There's a reset form option and a Send request button.

  1. Select a site from the dropdown list of locations
  2. Optional: enter the date you need the item by, items not supplied by this date will be cancelled
  3. Click 'Send request'

The book will be recalled from the person who has it.  They will have 7 days to return it.  You'll receive an email letting you know when the book is ready for collection, advising where to collect it from.  You will have 5 days to collect the book.

Request

Where print items are held at Walter Bower House Library, Martyrs Kirk or the Old Psychology Library they can be requested to be delivered to other library sites.

How to make a request

We aim to provide the book to the site you have selected by next working day (Monday-Friday), there may be times when it will take longer for us to locate and supply the book.  When the book is ready for collection you'll receive an email letting you know the book is ready for collection and advising where to collect it from.  You will have 5 days to collect the book.
