Janet I. Sykes Collection of European Travel Photography
Janet Inglis (Bunny) Sykes (1911-2005), (nee Hutchison) graduated MA from the University of St Andrews in 1932. She taught and lectured on English, History and Music in schools and colleges for thirty years, and travelled extensively in Europe recording her experiences on film.
Her varied collection of about 5,000 colour slides and a small number of prints, 1950s-1980s, depicts Scottish and international topography, architecture and folk culture, including castles, gardens and churches.
The slides were mostly taken by Mrs Sykes, but the collection also includes some commercial slides. In addition to Scotland, countries covered are: Austria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, India, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta and Switzerland.
