James B. Milne Collection of Archaeological and Historical Site Photography

James Burt Milne (1918-1997) travelled widely in his retirement on cultural and historical tours throughout the world including India, Egypt, Mexico and other countries famous for their archaeological and historical heritage.  He took an extensive photographic record of the places he visited, his photographs forming a unique record of famous sites in the 1970s and 1980s.

 

His collection consists of some 6000 colour slides providing a fascinating view of international tourist sites in the 1970s and 1980s, and reflects in particular his personal interest in templesmosquesstreet scenesfrescoesmosaics, and statues.

 

The collection is organised into 41 series and has been catalogued to this level. Where digitised subordinate records exist, you can explore down the collection hierarchy, but for non-digitised records please contact the department for further information.
