A guide to getting started with the Library

About the JF Allen Library

The JF Allen Library is in the Physics and Astronomy building on the North Haugh 

  • See the Library Spaces webpage for  the JF Allen Library opening times
  • Silent study spaces; 
  • two group study rooms;
  • collections for Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science (with more resources also held in the Main Library collections);
  • computers and printers
  • self-service borrow and return

Location - JF Allen Library

The J F Allen Library is upstairs in the Physics and Astronomy building on the North Haugh.

Facilities at JF Allen Library

Staff at the Service Desk will be able to answer any questions you have about the Library.

Use the self-service machine to borrow and return books

To Borrow:

  • Select Borrow on the touchscreem
  • Place your card, barcode facing up, onto the machine below the screen
  • Place the item(s) you want to borrow onto the machine below the screen
  • Check the screen to ensure everything you want to borrow is listed then select Done on the touchscreen
  • You'll receive an email with the details of the items you've borrowed and when they are due for return

To Return:

  • Select Return on the touchscreen
  • Place the item(s) you want to return onto the machibe
  • Check the screen to ensure everything you want to return is listed, then select Done on the touchscreen
  • Place your books into the returns slot in the desk.

There are computers in the JF Allen Library, and power sockets if you want to use your own device.

There are multi-function print, scan and copy machines in the Library.

Use your matriculation card to access your print queue or make copies.

There are two group study rooms available.

The JF Allen Library is a silent study space (with the exception of the group study rooms)
