Inter-library loans: Before making a request

How to make requests for books, journal articles and theses.

Before You Make a Request

Search for the item in SAULCAT, SEEKER, EThOS or ProQuest

Make sure the item (book, journal article, or thesis) is not already available from the University of St Andrew Library

SAULCAT is the Library's main online catalogue. When searching for a book or thesis title use the keyword search option or search by author. When looking for a journal article, search for the title of the journal on SAULCAT's Periodicals and Journals tab.
SEEKER covers print books and journals, as well as e-journal articles, e-books, book reviews, theses, and much more.  Try searching SEEKER for journal articles by title, or check SAULCAT for the journal title and holdings.

EThOS is the British Library's catalogue of UK theses. Search here for theses before making a request as you may be able to access them directly from EThOS. However, if you are asked to pay for a thesis when using EThOS please make your request through Inter-Library Loans and we will cover any costs for you.

You can search SAULCAT or Research@StAndrews: Full Text to find St Andrews' theses, search EThOS for UK theses and ProQuest for international theses.

You should also check the catalogues of University of Dundee and University of Abertay Dundee libraries - you may borrow directly from them.

If the item you request is already available, you will receive an email explaining this and your request will not be processed.
